“Apple is reportedly removing iPhone, iPod, and MacBook screen protectors from its online and retail stores, just a couple of weeks before the iPad hits the stand,” Sarah Jacobsson reports for PCWorld.

“Apple has yet to reveal the reason it is pulling protective products from its shelves. A popular speculation is that Apple wants to promote the idea that its product’s screens are sturdy enough that they don’t need to be protected (even though anyone who’s ever dropped an iPhone knows this is far from the case),” Jacobsson reports. “That’s no explanation for why Apple is also banning antiglare, mirrored, and privacy film, unless they also hope to promote the idea that their screens are easy to read in the sun, can double as mirrors, and have magical privacy properties.”

Jacobsson reports, “Another speculation is that the products, while popular, are hard to apply and thus have a higher rate of return than other products.”

Apple’s “latest iPhone and iPod Touch screens are surprisingly resistant to, well, everything — from finger oil to water to barbecue sauce, and don’t scratch very easily. Even my iPhone 3G (without the [3GS's] ‘oleophobic’ screen) is pretty resistant to scratches… Macworld points out that it’s probably no coincidence that Apple is pulling screen protectors right before the introduction of the iPad — but why? Could Apple be thinking of debuting its very own line of (OLEOPHOBIC) screen protectors?”

“A federal appeals court on Wednesday rejected a class-action lawsuit seeking to hold Apple Inc. responsible for possible hearing loss caused by using its popular iPod music player,” Jonathan Stempel reports for Reuters.

“The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco affirmed a 2008 district court ruling that the plaintiffs failed to show that use of the iPod poses an unreasonable risk of noise-induced hearing loss,” Stempel reports. “It also found that the plaintiffs lacked standing to allege a violation of California’s unfair competition law.”

Stempel reports, “Cupertino, California-based Apple has sold more than 220 million iPods since their 2001 launch. It provides a warning with each iPod that urges users to avoid hearing damage by setting the volume at safe levels.”

The latest version of the iPhone OS allows you to have 11 pages of 16 icons, plus the four permanent icons at the bottom of the screen, for a total of 180 apps. You can actually have more than 180, though only 180 icons will be visible.

To get to the invisible apps, just do a search (press Home from the home screen), and type part of the non-visible app’s name. I don’t know how many of these invisible apps you can have, as I have not tried more than three so far.

Apple’s chief executive, Steven P. Jobs, discussed his health and Apple’s new product line in an interview Wednesday with David Pogue, the personal technology columnist for The New York Times.

• Jobs remarking on Kindle: “You notice Amazon never says how much they sell; usually if they sell a lot of something, you want to tell everybody.”

• Jobs explaining why iPod Touch didn’t get a camera: “Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine. Because a lot of the games were free on the store… We started to market it that way, and it just took off. And now what we really see is it’s the lowest-cost way to the App Store, and that’s the big draw. So what we were focused on is just reducing the price to $199. We don’t need to add new stuff — we need to get the price down where everyone can afford it.”

• Jobs on his health: “I feel great. I probably need to gain about 30 pounds, but I feel really good. I’m eating like crazy. A lot of ice cream.”

Full interview here.

Do you have Ipod 1st generation, or do you have the 2nd generation or maybe you have your own Iphone2g or Iphone3g? And you are trying to install tons of application and Games on your device for free but you don’t know how to do it? This is the solution for you.

Introducing the Redsnow by Dev-team

it was release last June and it is just in version 0.8 for the first time
that I tried this one on my Ipod touch First Gen all was working perfectly it was the easiest way how to jailbreak your phone and unlock it so you can use any sim card provider.

Steps:

1. You need to download first the Redsnow application. here is the links

Mac:http://xs1.iphwn.org/apps/redsn0w-mac_0.8.zip
Windows:http://xs1.iphwn.org/apps/redsn0w-win_0.8.zip

2. Also you need to download the latest firmware for your device and update it in itunes. I will suggest you should look for the firmware 3.0 and download on the link provided (for all edition of Ipod touch and Iphone.)

http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

3. After downloading the redsnow application and the firware place it on your desktop, then open the redsnow folder and open redsnow.exe or for mac redsnow.dmg

4. The application will open like this:

http://americaniphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Redsnow-jailbreak.png

5. Then you will see a browse button on the lower part of the application, click it and then locate the ipod firware on your desktop and press ok. wait for a while until you will see the greyed out button next turns black and then click next.

6. The next window will explain you what will be installed, on the lower part of the application you will look Install cydia and put a check mark on it and press next.

7. follow the instruction on how to put your Ipod/iphone to DFU mode.and you need to turn off your phone first before to do this (1. hold the power button for 10 seconds. 2. while holding the power button, press the home button for 20 seconds, then release the power button and keep holding the home button for 30 sec. wait untill you will see a white screen to appear).

8. Then you will see on the screen downloading jailbreak this will take some time so dont remove your phone or ipod on the dock station or cable and make sure your computer or laptop will not go to sleep mode.

9. after the process is finished. we are all done.

You have just jailbreak your ipod/iphone

Thank to Dhagz for sending this tip!

With your MacBook Pro and iPod along with other basic supplies, you may now visually trace back your track even at the peak of Mount Everest while taking the most difficult challenge in its proud peak.

This can be proven by the team who took the Everest challenge, The First Ascent team.

Gerry Moffat, head of production for the team, films daily dispatches and uses his MacBook Pro to transfer and edit the data. All of the footage is shot on a solid state cards on the mountain.

“It’s then put into the trusty MacBook Pro,” Moffat said in a video on the Web site. “These have been functioning superbly all the way up—we’re at about 21,000 feet.”

After the footage has been backed up, the card goes to one of the sherpas who takes it to the base camp for editing. The video editor, Tom, then makes another backup of the data and begins editing the footage for public viewing.

The relevant clips are imported into Final Cut Pro, Apple’s professional video application. Music is added, the video is edited and the dispatch is ready to be encoded for the Internet. The files are uploaded via satellite connection to an FTP server in the U.S. and posted to the Internet.

Documenting the journey is not the only reason to carry Apple gear on Everest. Each climber has an entertainment pack that they carry for rest periods. Many of them chose to bring their iPods.

During a rest day, some of the climbers give us a glimpse of what they take with them to pass the time.

“This is what’s turning out to be the best entertainment on this trip—my iPod touch,” one of the climbers said.

“Of course, I’ve always got my trusty [iPod] shuffle,” said another climber when he was going over his entertainment kit.

One of the other climbers brought her iPod nano on the trip to sit back and rest with.

The team is scheduled to make the ascent to the peak of Mount Everest today. You can view all of the video dispatches on the First Ascent Web site.

Even at the coldest and proudest peak of the Everest, home is just a few clicks away.
